Viddy is a Smartphone app for iPhone that has followed hot on the heels of Instagram, but instead focusing on video in short 15 second snippets. The saying is that ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’ – if this is the case then Instagram should be very flattered indeed, but the bonus is that it provides a very familiar interface which assists usability.

Viddy is a lot less ‘mature’ than Instagram but it is growing rapidly and shows good parallels, so as such I chose it to be the Video component of aussieskier.com/social Snow Sharing program. They are still working on their Android app which will be released this Northern Hemisphere Summer, the iPhone version can be downloaded at the App Store.

Step 1 – Find and Download Viddy on the App Store:

Step 2 – Sign In with your Facebook or Twitter ID:

Main Screen – lose points if you play the Justin Bieber Video:

Step 3 – Press the ‘Camera’ icon then choose to shoot a new video or choose from existing:

Step 4 – Use the yellow sliders to choose the segment of clip you would like to use:

Step 5 – Choose the Thumbnail, Video Effects and Music then tap ‘Share’ on the top RHS:

Step 6 – Add a title, description and MOST IMPORTANTLY press the # button

Step 7 – Select the ‘# Things’ button and enter aussieskier

Step 8 – Select ‘Done’ and if you’re happy with everything Press ‘Post’

It usually takes about a minute for each video to upload depending on your network speed, and then a few minutes for the video to index as belonging to #aussieskier, after which it will be visible from aussieskier.com/social and also by searching for the tag #aussieskier within the app.
