Carving Skis

Carving Skis

Carving skis are designed to be relatively skinny underfoot to allow quick edge to edge transitions and maximise edge hold. Carving skis are designed to give you more control over the snow, helping to carve at speed. These flexible skis often come with system bindings that are elevated off the ski to give more edge pressure.

If you're most comfortable on groomed trails, or looking to rally trenches on firm snow, then a carving ski is the right tool for the job. These skis are at home on the corduroy, providing a comfortable, reliable feel on firmer snow.

Carving skis are designed to perform at their best on-piste, with shapes and profiles optimised for making precise, consistent turns on groomed snow. Featuring narrower waist widths (typically sub 80mm) and a deeper sidecut for engaging the ski's edges, carving skis make it easier to carve smooth, arcing turns. The design of carving skis provides improved edge grip and stability, improving control and responsiveness.

We recommend carving skis for any skier looking for the best performance on firm snow, with a range of skis available for differing skier ability levels. Some beginners will respond well to using a carving ski in the early days on their skiing, or if they are looking for a solid tool to boost their progression. Likewise, we can assist advanced or expert skiers with a carving ski that can perform when pushed to the limits. A good carving ski is a great addition to a 2 or 3 ski quiver, and is highly recommended for when you are wanting the best performance on firm, fresh groomer runs at the start of the day.

We believe that a Carving ski is a specific tool for arcing turns on hard snow. From our many years of on-snow experience, the benefits of a carving ski can be best felt on skis with narrower waist widths below 80mm. There are wide body carving skis around, but we have found that they lose the quick and responsive edge-to-edge feeling of narrower skis, defeating the purpose of a carving ski. If you are looking for a wider ski for improved performance on softer snow, you will be best served by a solid All Mountain ski with more tip and tail rocker, taper, and reduced camber.
