Ski Jackets

Your ski jacket is an essential piece of kit for keeping you dry, warm and protected in the snow. The type of jacket you choose will be determined by how and where you like to spend your time in the mountains. Ski jackets come with varying ranges of waterproof and breathability ratings as well as different levels of insulation. You also have the option of choosing between an array of different technical features such as powder skirts, helmet compatible hoods and integrated pass pockets.

The team here at aussieskier have spent many years in the mountains and have tested every kind of ski jacket imaginable. We have found that when skiing in warmer environments like Australia, or when doing more active pursuits such as ski touring, the breathability and waterproofing of your gear will be the best thing to focus on. A waterproof / breathability rating of 15000mm or above is a great start for keeping you dry and comfortable. Fabrics that use membranes such as Gore-Tex and Futurelight are even better, providing premium ratings above 20000mm.

When skiing in higher alpine environments such as Europe, Japan and Colorado, we have found that insulation is key. Choosing an insulated ski jacket or dialling in your layering system by using a shell jacket as an outer layer, and a combination of wool base layers and a breathable mid layer, will be the best way to keep you cosy, comfortable and out on the slopes for longer.

The advantages of choosing a shell Jacket and layering system are that it allows the best way to keep your temperature regulated when active and spending time in changeable alpine environments, as well as offering the versatility to have one jacket that can be used in a variety of different conditions.
