Thermal Underwear

Keeping warm, dry and comfortable in the snow is about more than just the ski jacket and pants you choose. The base layer that you wear against your skin will be a very important factor in making your day enjoyable. The first key consideration when buying base layers is fabric choice. Items made of cotton are best avoided as they do not provide adequate warmth and moisture wicking capabilities. Items made from wool, bamboo or polyester fibres will be a much better choice for mountain activities. The following are some of our favourites here at aussieskier:

Mons Royale is the shop favourite, due to their unparalleled style and warmth to match. Featuring 100% New Zealand ultra fine merino, the material stays soft to touch for the lifetime of the thermals. They are definitely not the scratchy wool jumper your grandpa had.

Le Bent build base layers out of their fabled platinum wool and bamboo blend. You'll never feel a softer base layer and they'll keep you super warm as well.

Patagonia have a range of Capilene® polyester thermal layers that are great at providing warmth and effective moisture wicking, while also being designed with Polygiene® odour control to stop the stink!

Rojo offers a variety of thermal underwear sizes for ladies and their counterpart, Elude, covers men. Their crew neck tops offer a great base layer when planning a full outfit of layered snow clothing, and the trail pants are flexible, fitting, and breathable without letting any cold air get in.

A good pair of thermal underwear is lightweight and breathable while also being dry, durable, and flexible. The thermal technologies built into the fabrics allow you to wear them all day without feeling too hot – or too cold! Some pairs can even be panelled or reach a three-quarter length to provide the kind of comfort that works best for your day out in the snow.
